Furniture assembly in Rotterdam

Flat-pack furniture is designed to be assembled by anyone, which is true right up to the point where a wardrobe door will not close or the instructions skip a step. We build it properly, fix it to the wall where that matters, and take the packaging problem off your hands.

What we assemble

  • Wardrobes, including sliding-door and corner units
  • Beds, bed frames, slatted bases and storage beds
  • Desks, office chairs and filing cabinets
  • Bookcases, sideboards and display cabinets
  • Kitchen units, worktop cupboards and shelving
  • Children's furniture, bunk beds and changing tables
  • Garden furniture, sheds and storage boxes
  • Dismantling and rebuilding furniture when you move

Assembled so it stays right

Most problems with flat-pack furniture come from small things: a panel fitted the wrong way round, cam locks tightened in the wrong order, or a floor that is not quite level so the doors gradually drift out of line. An experienced pair of hands notices those before the piece is finished, not afterwards.

Tall and heavy items should be anchored to the wall, and in Rotterdam that depends on what the wall is made of. Concrete, brick and hollow plasterboard each need different fixings, and the wrong plug in a partition wall will hold a wardrobe only until someone opens the door too hard.

We also take apart and rebuild furniture for a move, which is often the difference between a wardrobe surviving the trip and arriving as a pile of scratched panels.

How to arrange it

  1. Tell us what you have The number of items and roughly what they are is enough. A photo of the box or a product name helps us estimate the time.
  2. We estimate and plan We call you back within about one working day with a time estimate and a date. Have the boxes in the right room if you can.
  3. Built, secured and tidied The handyman assembles the furniture, anchors it where needed, checks that doors and drawers run properly and gathers the packaging.

What it costs

€75 per hour including VAT · no call-out charge · pay after the job

€75 per hour including VAT, with no call-out charge. Because assembly times vary so much between a bedside table and a four-door wardrobe, we charge for the time actually spent rather than a price per item. There is a one-hour minimum.

A single wardrobe often takes one to two hours; a bedroom full of furniture takes considerably longer. We give you an estimate before we start, and if the job is clearly defined we can agree a fixed price in advance.

Where in Rotterdam we work

We cover the whole city and the area immediately around it: Rotterdam Centrum, Kralingen, Hillegersberg, Schiebroek, Blijdorp and Rotterdam-Noord, across the river on the Kop van Zuid, and further out in Schiedam and Capelle aan den IJssel.

Rotterdam housing varies enormously, and that matters for the work. A television goes onto a concrete wall in a Kop van Zuid apartment very differently than onto the plasterboard partition of a renovated flat, and the older timber window frames common in Kralingen need a different approach than modern plastic ones.

Availability depends on our planning. Tell us what you need and where you live, and we will let you know when a handyman can be with you.

Frequently asked questions

How much does furniture assembly cost in Rotterdam?

€75 per hour including VAT, with no call-out charge. We charge for time rather than per item, because a bedside table and a large wardrobe are not comparable jobs.

How long does a wardrobe take?

A straightforward two-door wardrobe often takes one to two hours. Sliding doors, corner units and anything with internal fittings take longer.

Do you assemble IKEA furniture?

Yes, and every other flat-pack brand. The principles are the same and our handymen have built a great many of them.

Will you secure the furniture to the wall?

Yes, and we recommend it for anything tall. We check what the wall is made of first and use fixings suited to concrete, brick or plasterboard.

Can you take away the packaging?

We gather and flatten the packaging so it is ready for disposal. Taking large amounts of cardboard away is not part of the service, but we will leave it tidy.

Can you dismantle furniture for a move?

Yes. We can take furniture apart before a move and rebuild it afterwards, which usually saves a lot of damage.
