Wall mounting service in Rotterdam

Anything that hangs on a wall depends on what is behind it. Getting a television, a heavy mirror or a long run of shelving to stay up safely is less about drilling and more about knowing which wall you are drilling into — and Rotterdam has a great many different kinds.

Why the wall decides the job

Older Rotterdam properties in Kralingen or Rotterdam-Noord usually have solid brick, which holds well but crumbles if you use the wrong bit. Post-war blocks are often poured concrete: very strong, but it needs a hammer drill and proper anchors. Newer apartments and renovated flats frequently use hollow plasterboard partitions, where a standard plug will pull straight out under the weight of a television.

There is also what you cannot see. Electrical cables and water pipes run through walls in fairly predictable patterns in Dutch homes, but not always, and a hole in the wrong place is an expensive afternoon. We check before we drill.

Finally there is height and alignment. A curtain rail that is two centimetres off is invisible on paper and obvious in the room, so we measure and level rather than judge by eye.

How to arrange it

  1. Tell us what needs hanging The item, roughly its weight or size, and where it should go. A photo of the wall and the spot is genuinely useful.
  2. We plan the visit We call you back within about one working day, estimate the time and agree a date that suits you.
  3. Mounted, levelled and checked The handyman selects fixings to match the wall, mounts the item level, tidies cables where relevant and checks it is secure.

What it costs

€75 per hour including VAT · no call-out charge · pay after the job

€75 per hour including VAT, with no call-out charge and a one-hour minimum. A single television or a curtain rail often fits comfortably within that hour, so it is worth adding any other hanging jobs to the same visit.

Brackets, plugs and screws can be supplied by us and charged separately, or you can provide your own. If you already have the bracket that came with the television, bring it out before we arrive.

Where in Rotterdam we work

We cover the whole city and the area immediately around it: Rotterdam Centrum, Kralingen, Hillegersberg, Schiebroek, Blijdorp and Rotterdam-Noord, across the river on the Kop van Zuid, and further out in Schiedam and Capelle aan den IJssel.

Rotterdam housing varies enormously, and that matters for the work. A television goes onto a concrete wall in a Kop van Zuid apartment very differently than onto the plasterboard partition of a renovated flat, and the older timber window frames common in Kralingen need a different approach than modern plastic ones.

Availability depends on our planning. Tell us what you need and where you live, and we will let you know when a handyman can be with you.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to have a TV mounted in Rotterdam?

€75 per hour including VAT, with no call-out charge and a one-hour minimum. A single television usually fits within that hour unless cables need to be concealed inside the wall.

Can you mount a television on a plasterboard wall?

Usually yes, with fixings designed for hollow walls, and ideally into the timber or metal studs behind the board. We check the wall first and tell you honestly if the position is not safe for the weight.

Can you hide the cables?

We can tidy cables into trunking or guide them behind furniture as standard. Running them inside the wall is a bigger job and takes extra time, so mention it when you request the visit.

Do you supply the brackets and fixings?

We can supply standard plugs, screws and rails, charged separately. Televisions usually come with their own bracket, and you are welcome to buy the parts yourself.

Can you hang heavy mirrors and large frames?

Yes. Weight is not the problem; the right fixing for the wall is. Tell us roughly how heavy the item is and we will bring what is needed.

Do you drill in rented flats?

Usually, but check your tenancy agreement first. Some landlords restrict drilling or require holes to be filled on departure. Tell us the restrictions and we will work within them.
