New home handyman in Rotterdam
The boxes are in, and now the list begins: no curtains at the windows, bare wires where the ceiling lights should be, a wardrobe still flat in its packaging and nowhere to hang a coat. Getting through that list yourself takes weekends and a drill you probably do not own. We can do it in one visit.
- €75 per hour including VAT
- No call-out charge
- Pay after the job is done, by invoice
- VOG screened (Dutch certificate of conduct)

The jobs that come with a Dutch move
Dutch homes are often handed over emptier than people expect. These are the jobs we are asked for most in the first weeks after a move.
- Hanging curtain rails, rods and roller blinds so the windows are covered
- Fitting ceiling lights and wall lights where only wires are left behind
- Assembling wardrobes, beds, desks and shelving units
- Mounting the television and tidying away the cables
- Putting up shelves, coat racks, mirrors and picture frames
- Securing tall furniture to the wall, particularly with small children in the house
- Adjusting doors that stick and replacing worn locks
- Touching up paintwork damaged during the move
What surprises people about Dutch homes
Light fittings usually do not stay behind. Where you expect a lamp you often find two bare wires and a plastic connector block, and in older Rotterdam flats the wiring can sit in unexpected places.
Window covering is rarely included either, and Dutch windows are often unusually tall, which means rails have to be fixed high up and into the right material.
Walls differ from street to street. A nineteen-thirties house in Hillegersberg has solid brick; a newer apartment on the Kop van Zuid has concrete and hollow partition walls, which need different fixings if a heavy cabinet is going to stay up.
One visit, one list
- Write down everything Walk through the flat and note every job, however small. Send the whole list when you request a handyman.
- We plan enough time We call you back to go through the list and reserve a realistic block of time, so nothing is left half finished.
- It gets done in one go The handyman works through the list in order of priority, so the essentials are covered even if the list turns out to be long.
What it costs
€75 per hour including VAT · no call-out charge · pay after the job
€75 per hour including VAT, no call-out charge, and an invoice after the work is done. Combining several small jobs into one visit is almost always cheaper than booking them separately.
If you would rather buy your own curtain rails, brackets and fixings, that is fine. Otherwise the handyman can supply them and they appear separately on the invoice.
Where in Rotterdam we work
We cover the whole city and the area immediately around it: Rotterdam Centrum, Kralingen, Hillegersberg, Schiebroek, Blijdorp and Rotterdam-Noord, across the river on the Kop van Zuid, and further out in Schiedam and Capelle aan den IJssel.
Rotterdam housing varies enormously, and that matters for the work. A television goes onto a concrete wall in a Kop van Zuid apartment very differently than onto the plasterboard partition of a renovated flat, and the older timber window frames common in Kralingen need a different approach than modern plastic ones.
Availability depends on our planning. Tell us what you need and where you live, and we will let you know when a handyman can be with you.

Frequently asked questions
How quickly can you come after we move in?
It depends on our planning. Get in touch as soon as you have your moving date and we will tell you which slots are available.
Can you do everything in one visit?
Usually yes, as long as we know the full list in advance so we can reserve enough time. Tell us which jobs matter most and those are done first.
Do I need to buy the curtain rails and brackets myself?
Only if you want to. Many people prefer to choose their own, but our handyman can also supply standard fixings and rails, which are then charged separately.
Can you mount things in a rented flat?
Usually, but check your tenancy agreement: some landlords limit drilling or ask for holes to be filled when you leave. Tell us the rules and we will work within them.
Is everything handled in English?
Yes. We can arrange an English-speaking handyman for your job, and the request, the agreements and the invoice can all be in English.
What does it cost?
€75 per hour including VAT, with no call-out charge, and you pay after the job is done.
